Gator-Aide Open Now

Please support our Glenwood teachers with a little Gator-Aide! We are very fortunate to have such wonderful, caring teachers at Glenwood. The Gator-Aide program is one way we can say "thank you". Show your appreciation by replenishing classroom supplies, purchasing needed equipment or assisting with a special task. The teachers, specialists and special services staff have put together lists of items and services that they need in their classrooms. Parents can choose the teacher requests that they would like to fulfill. Feel free to split the cost of items with other families in the class.

Click HERE to view and sign up for "Gator-Aide".

Please don't forget to help out the specials staff too! After you sign up on SignUpGenius, purchase the item and ship directly to the school or send it in with your child. Either way, please make sure you clearly label the package with the teacher's name.

 Birthday Book Club

Celebrate your child’s birthday with a donation to the Glenwood Library! Our Glenwood librarians will use the funds to purchase new books for our library. Your child will come to the library on a special selection day in the spring and choose a book from the collection. A special book plate with your child's name will be placed in the book to identify the donation for years to come. You may donate any amount (minimum suggested amount is $15). All donations are used to purchase books for the Glenwood Library. Registration closes January 30th.

FEBRUARY PROGRAMMING & CULTURAL EVENTS

 Lunar New Year Dragon Dance

Our 3rd and 4th grade volunteers will perform the dragon dance in costume throughout the halls of Glenwood for the entire Glenwood student body and staff. Our dancers attend rehearsal with professional coaches at Zen Wushu Academy to prepare for the performance and to learn about the traditions around the holiday. The result is a vibrant performance that radiates throughout the school and gets everyone excited for Lunar New Year!

TAHIRA: Freedom Stories

Gifted storyteller, TAHIRA, shares tales of freedom fighters in this dramatic performance. A compelling look at the people who took extraordinary risks for freedom, the program can be tailored to highlight such topics as the Civil Rights Movement, Black women in history, or the Underground Railroad. The program includes freedom songs such as “John the Rabbit,” which contained coded messages used by enslaved Africans to devise a plan of escape. This program emphasizes the importance of having courage in the face of inequality and injustice.

 Fractured Fairy Tales

In this reader's theater workshop, our 3rd graders explore the art of story-telling and performance by juxtaposing traditional fairy tales and humorous versions with unexpected twists. At the end of the residency, parents are invited to watch their child's class perform a reading of both the traditional and "fractured" versions, full of both dramatic and comic takes, which is sure to delight!

3rd grade

Multicutural Dance Residency

History, geography, social studies, fashion, music and dance are all incorporated in this assembly. Students learn folk dances from various countries and present them onstage. Students learn about the culture of each country represented and the origins of each dance style. Parents watching the final performance will be amazed at how much our first graders have learned!
